Basic Pants Patterns / Pants block

 Hello Clouds

Today, to complete our set of basic patterns or basic bodice patterns, I bring you the class to make pants patterns. if you want to see the past classes on this topic here you have the links:

Basic Top patterns

Basic Sleeve

Basic Skirt

Now, how to make your pants patterns?

You are going to need the following measurements:

💛Waist contour

💛Hips contour

💛Pant length (from waist to ankle)

💛Ankle contour

💛Crotch length

If you need help on how to take the measurements, check this post 👉 click here

About the crotch length: this is a very tricky measurement, and it's vital to get it accurate for a good result in our patterns. You can get it in 2 ways as shown in this image,

1: sit on a flat surface and measure from your waist to the surface

2: outside leg - inside leg = crotch length

For more explanations and more tips on how to get the perfect crotch measurement see the video class at the bottom of this post.

Note: This method is to trace customized patterns, so we are not using any chart of standard measurements. Customized patterns are made specially to fit the body type and real measurements, so for that, we use formulas you see in the diagram below, for example, when we divide our hips contour by 32 to get the crotch curve.

These formulas are based on the proportions in our bodies. Whatever is our body type, it is always proportioned so these formulas will work and we will get more accurate patterns than if we use a measurements chart. In this way for example, our armhole length is equal to one-sixth part of our bust contour, our front crotch extension is equal to divide our hips round by 16, etc.

For more details about the formulas, measurements to mark, and the modifications you need to make for different types of bodies, see the video class below, if you have any doubt, leave me a comment and I will be happy to help you.

Happy stitches

Basic Skirt Patterns

In this class, we are going to learn to draw a basic skirt pattern. If the skirt is made using the pattern without any change, the result is a straight skirt of the desired length. Or if you want you can make transformations to these patterns to obtain different types of skirts.
In any case, the basic patterns are drawn using custom measurements, in this case. Or if you want you can consult size charts to obtain industrial size patterns, following the same layout procedure.

Necessary measurements:

Waist contour
Hips contour
Hips length (from waist to hips)

Diagram

ERRATA: where it says "waist length" it must be "hips length"

The video includes instructions for adjustments that should be made to patterns for different body types and to solve common problems that we can find when making skirts.

Basic Sleeve Pattern

VIDEO CLASS:

In Past classes, we saw how to trace the bodice sloper or the basic bodice patterns.
Today im going to show you how to make a custom basic sleeve.
Here in this diagram, you can see the main points to trace the sleeve.

The top curve of the sleeve must have the same measurement of the 2 armholes together, front and back of your top patterns. If the sleeve curve length is bigger, stitch it like in the following images.
(Usually, the sleeve curve is bigger for 1.5 cm approximately, this difference allows us to use the same patterns to work with different fabrics. Some shrink when stitching them)

The diagrams are only for reference. Watch the video tutorial for detailed instructions, tips, and information to get a perfect sleeve pattern. It includes a section where i explain the different lengths of cap sleeves, how to make them and when to use it.

Basic Bodice sloper

Hi Clouds, today im sharing with you a basic bodice sloper ive been working on, to make a set that is easier to make and equally effective than the complicated ones.
The most important thing when tracing any garment pattern is to take the measurements correctly.
so here you have some pictures that will help you.
And remember we have this video about how to take measurements of others and also your own measurements.

And here you have the video class to trace your basic body sloper, and some diagrams for reference but you need to watch the video to complement the information and get all the knowledge you need to get a perfect set of patterns that you can use to make any top garment or any dress you want.

Remember is important to make a muslin or toile, which is a try garment to check if your pattern needs any adjustment.

These Diagrams are for reference only, watch the video class to know to trace the perfect body sloper, it has additional information about how to trace armholes and other tips.

How to take measurements

This is a long time request im getting all the time from my viewers, how to take measurements for pattern making seams to be a simple task, but some people still have some doubts about it, si i prepare a tutorial showing the proper way to take every body measurement.

The measurements can be divided in 3 categories:

*Contours:
Is the measurement around specific part of the body, such as waist, hips, bust, neck, etc.

* Widths and Lengths:
These are the measurements we take starting from one point to another in 2 dimensions, for example: leg length, arm length, shoulders width, etc.

*Auxiliary measures:
This measurements help us to make our patterns, using them as a direct reference to the body to be sure that the final garment will suits our body in a perfect way. Neckline length, armhole contour, armhole length etc.

Now lets see the tutorial:

Basic Patterns for babies

Hello everyone, today im here to show you how i make my basic bodice patterns to make baby garments.
These patterns are made to fit girls and boys, you only need to adapt them when making the transformations for the final garment, for example, if you want to make a dress for a girl, use the full shape of the top patterns, if you want a t-shirt or a jacket for a baby boy then use the patterns considering the waist or the hips line.

To make your patterns you are going to need this measurements chart, is made with standard measurements so i recommend to make a muslin and check how it fits your baby and make adjustments if needed, or either you can make your own chart replacing the standard measurements with the actual measurements taken from your baby.

You can see the chart here or if you want to download it in full size, you can get it from the Free patterns section of this blog

here you have the video tutorial to trace the patterns, if you have any doubt let me a comment in this post.

Happy stitches for everyone ^_^
